چکیده
Ga and Ga-based alloys have recently received significant attention as “liquid metals (LMs)” with the combined advantages of a low toxicity, melting point, high fluidity, conductivity. An important method for modifying LMs enhanced processabilities new applications is to tailor them into colloidal microdroplets suspended in liquid medium. In this study, unique vitrification behavior oil-based systems shown LM induced by various mineral oxide (MO) nanoparticles that are added solid rheology modifiers. MOs exhibit affinity surfaces droplets an apolar oil medium due polar interaction between MO surface skin LM. Thus, even minute amounts (ΦMO < 0.01) transform free-flowing suspension ≈ 0.55) highly viscoelastic fluid enables advanced processing (e.g., 3D printing). At loadings ≥ 0.1), emulsion unprecedentedly rheological strength obtained, characterized yield stress ≈104 Pa. vitrified emulsions, partial sintering effects internal sample stress, which improves thermophysical properties emulsions may be useful several practical applications.

Bubble Nucleation in Superheated Liquid-Liquid Emulsions
An investigation of the process by which bubbles form in superheated liquid-liquid emulsions is reported. A theoretical model for the rate of bubble nucleation is developed that is valid for any binary liquid system. Because of the interesting "microexplosion" phenomenon postulated to occur during combustion of fuel/water emulsions, special attention is focused on hydrocarbon/ water/surfactant ...

A monatomic simple liquid in two dimensions, where atoms interact isotropically through the Lennard-Jones-Gauss potential [M. Engel and H.-R. Trebin, Phys. Rev. Lett. 98, 225505 (2007)], is vitrified by the use of a rapid cooling technique in a molecular dynamics simulation. Transformation to a crystalline state is investigated at various temperatures and the time-temperature-transformation (TT...
متن کاملVitrification and levitation of a liquid droplet on liquid nitrogen.
The vitrification of a liquid occurs when ice crystal formation is prevented in the cryogenic environment through ultrarapid cooling. In general, vitrification entails a large temperature difference between the liquid and its surrounding medium. In our droplet vitrification experiments, we observed that such vitrification events are accompanied by a Leidenfrost phenomenon, which impedes the hea...
متن کاملHierarchical organization in liquid crystal-in-liquid crystal emulsions.
We report the formation and characterization of hierarchical ordering in systems comprised of micrometer-sized droplets of thermotropic nematic liquid crystals (LCs) dispersed in continuous nematic phases of a lyotropic chromonic LC (disodium cromoglycate (DSCG)). Significantly, we find the orientations of the two LC phases to be coupled, with nematic droplets of 4'-pentyl-4-cyanobiphenyl (5CB)...
متن کاملLiquid crystal-based emulsions: progress and prospects.
Recent progress in lyotropic liquid crystal (LC)-based emulsions over the last few years has been reviewed. The tuning parameters for the formation, stability, rheology and transparency of LC-based emulsions are addressed. Recent applications of LC-based emulsions to the fabrication of dual meso/macroporous materials are also included.
